Excellent ‘just drinks’ date or pre dinner cocktails 1940’s themed underground bar. This place is really entertaining and the 1940’s wartime London theme is kept up throughout your visit from the cloakroom attendant who tell you ‘mums the word!’ to the long forties tube train they have in the bar with booths for larger groups, to the very friendly waitresses in amazing forties dresses, with a soundtrack of Blitz style tunes playing in the background.
It’s a sort of secret bar in that it’s not overly easy to find, only signposted by a small sign that reads ‘To the Trains’ just off of Kingly Court in Carnaby Street. Not knowing this I ended up going down the service entrance to Cha Cha Moon Chinese restaurant in an attempt to find it. Perplexed by the abundance of Chinese chefs and lack of Forties themed cocktails I scuttled off.
When I eventually made it there we were put in ‘the bunker’ which is a private blackout booth which gives you a bit more privacy with your date. I on the other hand was with my ex boyfriend’s mother so it was actually a bit awkward. If you do want a table or booth you MUST book. Overall it’s a really kitsch, lively bar with a great atmosphere, perfect for first date drinks.
Cocktails priced between £7.50-£10 each.
