This Spanish tapas place is hidden underneath St Matthews Church in Brixton in their old crypt. Now I know what you are thinking…would a potential date not be a teeny bit put off at being brought to a crypt on a date? Well the answer is…potentially, but once they are down there I promise they will like it! The ceilings are very low, just like the lighting with lots of candles giving it a very romantic feel – apart from the whole ‘it’s a crypt aspect’.
The waiters and chefs are all Spanish which obviously helps when running a Spanish tapas restaurant and as such the food is really good! I’m always a fan of small plates on a date, as it encourages you to talk about what you like and what you don’t. Also this allows you to get the important information such as, ‘do you like cheese croquettes and chorizo in red wine?’, out of the way early so you can tell whether to bother fraternising with them again. Obvs if their answer is no, sneak out whilst they are in the loo.
Overall this place is great, reasonably priced and romantic – just don’t let slip that Torture Garden used to hold nights down there like I did in front of my ex’s parents. Oh Sangria…why do you let me say these things???
Dinner for 2 with Wine is about £65-70
